Establishing Shots

An establishing shot is important because it sets the scene of the movie. For example you could be shown a city where the film is taking place or a shop, building or planet. an establishing shot can also set the tone and atmosphere for a movie so you know what to expect from the movie. I think `Lord Of The Rings` has one of the best establishing shots, the way the camera pans over Hobbitition shows the audience where the main character is from.
